Student Accommodation
LOOKING TO RENT OR LET ACCOMMODATION IN LONDON?

London is an expensive city in terms of accommodation, and you should plan your budget ensuring that you dedicate at least £4,000 per year for your lodging.
Remember to investigate other study locations in the UK if money is an issue, as moving away from the capital will immediately save a significant part of your budget. Wales or the North, for example are attractive areas not only in terms of countryside and atmosphere but for living costs as well.
FOR STUDENTS: ACCOMMODATION TYPES
• Room with a family
One of the options offering the best value for money is to rent a room in a family home, (which is also a cheaper option than a separate room in a flat) as facilities are normally much better than in separate accommodation, and the atmosphere nicer. The family will also be very useful to inform you about local transport, the area, etc.
Most paying guest rents also include dinners and breakfasts.
• Rent a room on your own
If you wish to rent a room as part of flat or house sharing, we recommend you to be very cautious. Our past experience has shown that you will need not less than £400 per month for something a bit decent, and more or less clean. Moreover, many renting schemes “tie you” to a duration of six months minimum, and you need to check whether bills (gas, electricity, water, TV license, etc) are included or not, as they may top up your final price quite drastically.
We tend to recommend the paying guest option rather than this one, which is more uncertain. However, some students have successfully found private accommodation and are satisfied with it.

FOR FAMILIES: HOST A STUDENT – the “rent a room” scheme
If you would like to welcome a student at your place as a paying guest, and increase your monthly income while providing a warm family environment to a student (over 18 years old), please register your details and we will contact you shortly.
Remember that under the current law,if you already have a lodger or are thinking about letting furnished rooms in your home, you can receive up to £4,250 a year tax-free (£2,150 if letting jointly). This is known as the Rent a Room scheme.
