APPLICATION PROCEDURE
GENERAL TIPS
Time frame
As a rule, you should allow an average of three to four weeks before receiving a response from the University.
Your application will be circulated between different departments and has to be seen and processed by more than one person, so lead times may considerably vary between Universities and times of the year
Remember to allow enough time for the total process; the sooner you will plan your application, the easier and smoother it will be.
Follow up
We will regularly chase progress on your application and will keep you directly informed of any evolution. If your documents are lost, missing or incomplete, we will immediately contact you to and find a suitable solution.
Your documents
As a general rule, never send originals. Get certified (or attested) copies, and always keep a spare copy of your documents and application before sending anything. This may save a lot of time and efforts later on and will also help you to remember all the details of your application when applying for your Student VISA.
Your application form
Follow the guidance notes provided, and ensure you write in a clear handwriting, neatly, in black ink, without spelling mistakes and ensure you answer questions in the right boxes.
Remember to write your full address including your state and ZIP code or Post code, and add the international and regional codes when giving your telephone contact number.
Pay attention to your personal statement –this is an essential part of your application. Do not forget to sign and date your application form in the end. Only send your application once you have all the documents required.
FROM ADMISSION TO ENROLMENT
This is normally a five steps process.
Stage 1 APPLY
Select a course and a University and complete your application.
Stage 2 ACCEPT YOUR OFFER
As soon as your application is approved,Universities will issue an offer letter.
If you are applying with StudentConnect, we will chase all the documentation and will check the offer letter is accurate.
Accept the University offer in writing:
Confirm your acceptation of the offer to the University: complete and fax/ e-mail back the acceptance slip which will be sent alongside your offer on a course.
Pay the deposit required on the tuition fees
Arrange for full/ partial payment of your tuition fees.
Please note that Universities will not issue any further documentation without the minimum deposit required (from £1,000 to 50% of the tuition fees).
Some institutions may ask for the total fees amount to be paid prior to the beginning of the course.
Please, do NOT accept an offer if you are not able to pay for the fees/ deposit.
Keep your documentation safe
The University will issue all the confirmation letters you will need to apply for your student visa (Unconditional offer, payment confirmation, etc) so ensure you safely keep all your letters together.
Stage 3: BOOK YOUR ACCOMMODATION
Book your student accommodation with the University (halls of residence normally offer good value for money). You will be asked to pay the University a deposit to book your room, and no accommodation will be secured without this deposit.
Remember that you will need to show a UK address when applying for your student VISA, so it is important to sort your accommodation as soon as you can.
Stage 4: APPLY FOR YOUR STUDENT VISA
Gather all the documents required:
Complete your VISA application form, and enclose financial evidence, evidence of accommodation in the UK and all University documentation.
If your application is thoroughly prepared and complete, you will not need to attend an interview, so we do recommend you to take appropriate advice and complete your application very carefully.
StudentConnect provide comprehensive advice for students preparing a VISA application. Please check our VISA service.
For further detail, you may also read our VISA comments in the FAQ section.
Stage 5: READY TO GO!
Travelling
Buy your flight ticket. Remember to carry all your documents in your handlugage and not in your suitcase, as you will have to show them at arrival.
We recommend students to purchase a travel insurance when getting their ticket.
Meet & Greet
Inform the University of your arrival date and time in advance, and give the details of your flight.
For late comers, or more generally, StudentConnect can help you organising your arrival and transport to your accommodation. Please check our services section for details.
Money
Bring enough traveller cheques with you and have some cash available.
You may need some time to open your bank account in the UK, so it is worth ensuring you have enough money with you to cover the expenses of your first two months.
Enrol
Enrol at University, and enjoy your induction programme.
